About Us

Kia ora! We're and Pixie, and we've got a pretty sweet story to share. Before we became our own brand, we were actually the creative minds behind heaps of those paint-by-numbers kits you might've seen around. Yep, we spent years designing patterns and mixing paints for some of the biggest names in the business – talk about learning the trade from the ground up!

Then came the lockdown days (crikey, what a time that was!), and like every Kiwi, we were looking for ways to stay creative and sane. With our resident feline CEO Pixie keeping us company, we started dreaming bigger. We thought, "Sweet as, with all this experience under our belts, why not create something that's truly ours?"

And speaking of our inspiration – most of our designs come from our adventures around Aotearoa and beyond! From the stunning Milford Sound to the beaches of the Coromandel, there's nothing like exploring to spark creativity, and we love turning our favourite moments into art that everyone can enjoy!

 

While people were absolutely chuffed with our designs, we didn't like that our work was being associated with dodgy providers (cheap kits, rubbish shipping, poor quality control), which is why...in late 2024, we took the plunge and launched and Pixie. But here's what makes us different – we're proper perfectionists about our kits (in the best way possible!). While most companies just run their designs through some automated software and call it done, we do things the good old-fashioned way. Every single design starts as original artwork, and we manually craft each 24, 36, and 48 colour version ourselves. And get this – we actually paint every design before we list it. If it's not fun to paint or doesn't look brilliant, it doesn't make the cut!

Oh, and about that name? Well, let's just say when you've got a cat who thinks every workspace is her personal catwalk, things can get... interesting! The '&' in and Pixie came from our chaotic little muse's tendency to add her own artistic touch to everything – usually by walking across keyboards, batting at paintbrushes, or deciding that yes, this perfectly laid-out kit definitely needs some reorganising. These days, Pixie's still very much part of the team, though she's more keen on supervising from her sunny spot by the window than getting her paws dirty. Fair enough – she's earned that promotion to full-time diva!

Everything you need comes right in the box: top-notch canvas, perfectly mixed paints (trust us, we've mixed A LOT of paint over the years), quality brushes, and super clear instructions. We're also teaming up with some incredible Kiwi and international artists to bring you even more choice designs – because who doesn't love variety?
